Through many talks with Wit Studio, we understood that the continuation would be difficult, so we looked for a new studio. Kinoshita, Maeda, and I divided the searching duties among ourselves, but most studios turned us down. Shifting Broadcasting rights to NHK
The interview covered how MBS remained on the Anime Production Committee even after the broadcast rights were transferred to the NHK.
Maeda said: MBS was not obligated to continue investing after selling the broadcast rights, but their passion for the series trumped that business logic.
Tateishi also said that although the number of broadcasting channels increased with each season, it was he who suggested broadcasting the anime on NHK in order to reach as many people as possible in Japan. He was deeply surprised by MBS’s decision to continue investing in a show which will be broadcasted on another. As a result, he feels indebted to both the NHK and MBS.
